All baby bumps are different. Some are big, some are small, some are high up and some are low. But some people still think shaming mums-to-be about the size of their bump is acceptable.
The size of your bump can vary depending on anything from your size, height or fitness level, to whether it’s your first child or not. Basically, every body is different and so everybody is different.
But now some amazing mums-to-be are taking on the bump shamers. They’ve been sharing viral pictures of their baby bump to show there is no perfect belly – and they are absolutely right.
Here are some examples of mums showing that however big the bump, it’s something to be celebrated!
1. The mum who shows that big is beautiful
Revie Jane’s pregnancy picture recently went viral after she called out body shamers for making fun of her bump for being bigger than average. The blogger and cross fit trainer shared a photo from when she was 24 weeks pregnant, yet many people made fun of the fact that she looked full term. Revie admitted she was even once left in tears in a changing room after the shop assistant said: ‘Holy moly! My friend is 36 weeks and you’re only 24 weeks and your WAY bigger than her!’
Many mothers have praised the Instagram star for speaking out and sharing their own stories about being shamed for their baby bump. The blogger continues to share photos of her baby girl Lexington- who looks adorable!
2. The bodybuilder with a beautiful bump
Body building bikini competitor and lawyer Daegan Coyne shared this photo of her bump when she was 30 weeks pregnant. Even though she’d been told her bump was actually above average, she had continually been told by others that she was ‘too big’, ‘far too muscly’ and ‘way too small’. Taking to Instagram to show that all bumps are different she said: ‘Given I am yet to see one lady carry their pregnancy shape and size the same as another, I believe it’s safe to assume peeps that there is no “one size fits all” pregnancy. We think she’s spot on!
3. The model who’s little bump casued a big wave of shaming
This will make you angry. The Instagram model was shamed for her small bump at 6 pregnant and was even told, ‘You are killing your baby’.
In a post, the excited mum-to-be shared a photo of herself in a hotel, flaunting her baby bump like all expectant mothers should be allowed to do. Instead, the model, who has over 1.2 millions, followers faced an onslaught of upsetting remarks including:
‘That’s 6 months pregnant? Is it a gerbil?’
‘She looks like the baby is going to be deprived of nutrients.’
‘Does she know she has to eat for two? She doesn’t even look like she’s eating enough for herself. Stop chasing the perfect baby body and eat something substantial for your poor baby’.
However, the model had no time for the rude remarks and took to Instagram to fight back against the public shaming. She said: ‘Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive support, all women’s bodies should be celebrated and we are all entitled to share our own journeys.’ She’s absolutely right and we think she looks incredible!
