Six-year-old boy brings flowers to school to apologise for hurting a girl's feelings

Mum Zowiie Williams couldn't contain her pride

One mother has emphasised the importance of teaching small children the importance of compassion and respect, after she shared a sweet image of her six-year-old son Callum bringing flowers in to school.

The flowers were apparently his own idea, as means of apologising to a girl at school after he hurt her feelings.

'Yesterday I was very disappointed to find out he had upset his special little lady due to another boy mate telling him what he should say & do,' writes proud mum Zowiie Williams, in a Facebook post which has since gone viral. 'So much so that I felt the need to have quite a good talk with him.'

Explaining her important it is to her that her son shows compassion to other children – particularly girls – she says: 'When your son hurts a girls feelings, it's our job as parents to make him understand how saying things out of anger & upset can make others feel.'

'Callum now understands that what other people think or say should not sway him into acting like he doesn't care about other people's feelings. Especially a girl. !! His head was high and he apologised in front of his peers and handed over the flowers.'

'It was a very proud moment for me as his mother. It was a learning step. One I hope he will carry with him always,' she adds.

The post has made a massive impact on social media, with nearly 6,000 shares and 19,000 reactions to date.

Commenters have agreed that Zowiie's message is an important one, and heaped praise on the little boy for being brave enough to make a public apology in front of his peers.

'This is a perfect example of how kids shld be brought up. to respect people & their feelings..well done zowiie & callum xx,' wrote one commenter.

'This is beautiful ❤️ I love that you're not the type of parent who thinks their child is always a little angel and made him aware when he has done something wrong,' said another.

A third agreed: 'This is amazing ❤️ my son has always brought me flowers and he loves doing it. I think this is so important and such a lovely gesture. U should be a proud mama great role model for ur son x'.
