You’ve probably watched your favourite Disney princess countless of times – whether she’s swimming through the ocean or simply sleeping waiting for her prince to come and kiss her.
But have you ever really paid attention to them? Sure, you probably know the colour of their dress or their quirky characteristic, but did you know that none of them have any fingernails?
That’s right, despite their (unrealistic) tiny waists, massive eyes and beautiful singing voices, there is one physical characteristic that they do not possess – nails.
Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Mulan, Tiana and Belle are just some who will never have to worry about ruining their nails while they’re partaking in their gruesome chores or heading into battle.
Even Snow White, which came out 80 years ago, hasn’t got a single nail to her name.
But it’s not just princesses as Aladdin, Mulan’s Shang and John Smith from Pocahontas are a few of the male characters who have also been let off easy when it comes to nail care.
However, being a Disney villain appears to grant you the ability for cuticle care as the Queen from Snow White and Maleficent are some of the chosen few to be gifted with fingernails.
The missing nails could well be down to the simple fact that it may cost just too much to add nails to each scene.
Disney previously admitted that time and cost were main factors in the decision to give Mickey Mouse only four fingers.
‘Artistically five digits are too many for a mouse. His hand would look like a bunch of bananas,’ Disney previously said.
‘Financially, not having an extra finger in each of 45,000 drawings that make up a six and one-half minute short has saved the Studio millions.’
