Baby Archie will feature in very surprising series that has special meaning to mum Meghan Markle

Baby Archie, Meghan and Harry’s first child, was born last May, but he’s already featuring in a very famous series…

Meghan and Harry announced they had welcomed their first child a few weeks ago, in early May, after the mum was two weeks overdue.

The announcement quickly became world news after royal fans everywhere waited to know if the couple had welcomed a boy or a girl, so it’s no wonder Archie was world famous at just days old.

But unlike other royal babies, his birth will be featured in something very unexpected for the royal family – a comics issue.

The reason behind the crossover is because little Archie shares his name with the protagonist of Archie Comics, the series that inspired hit show Riverdale.

So the makers of the comics have decided to launch an issue inspired by the birth of Meghan and Harry’s birth, which will be on sale in September – just before Archie’s fourth month birthday.

Speaking about the upcoming Archie Comics, Publisher/CEO of Archie Comics Jon Goldwater said: ‘Archie has a long history of being part of the world conversation, and this is the latest – and maybe the greatest – example of that.

‘When we learned that the royal baby was named Archie, we knew we had to engage with this bit of history in an organic and fun way. And what’s better than showing how Archie himself reacts to the news?

‘This story is a fun, light romp that features all the classic elements of Riverdale – with a royal twist!’

The new issue is likely to have a special meaning to Meghan, as she is said to have collected issues of the comic with her dad when she was little.

According to a friend, the now Duchess was ‘obsessed’ with Archie, Betty and Veronica’s antics, and some thought picking the name Archie could also be a nod to her estranged dad.

A friend of Meghan’s told The Sun at the time: ‘She would spend her weekends going to vintage stores to buy the comics.

‘This could be a little nod to her dad. It was him who instilled that hobby into her, that was their activity together.

‘He would drive her around and also surprise her with vintage volumes. She had at least 100. This may be a way to reach out to her dad, even after all that’s happened.’
