Mumsnet users shocked by woman’s controversial bathroom cleaning hack

A mum's suggestion for cleaning her toilet brush has been branded 'disgusting' and 'gross' by other parents.

The woman, who spoke of being sick of throwing away plastic, came up with the idea in an attempt to reuse her toilet brush.

Her suggestion, however, of putting it in the dishwasher, caused some serious controversy, as many people were shocked that she would even consider doing such a thing.

Writing on Mumsnet, the woman shared her potential idea: ‘Would it be absolutely disgusting to put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!’

And the controversial question sparked a passionate response from fellow parents.

One person replied: ‘Jesus Christ, why??? Why would you need your loo brush to be that clean when it just gets used to clean a loo? Why would you risk contaminating your food area for it? I can’t fathom what your thinking is here?!’

And this person got right down to the point with their comment: ‘That is disgusting.’

One woman was a little bit more diplomatic about the whole thing, and even offered the mum an alternative idea:

‘Yes I agree about the reusing thing, as much as possible. But putting loo brushes in the dishwasher is gross and not very efficient as you would be using a huge amount of water. Bucket of hot water is a good idea!’

Another user disregarded the woman’s dishwasher idea, favouring the use of bleach instead:

‘It shouldn’t be necessary. Every morning when I clean the bathroom, I put bleach down the loo and scrub round it, then leave the brush in the loo soaking while I clean the rest of the bathroom. I’m sure the bleach leaves the brush fresh and clean.’
