Former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson has hit out at trolls who criticise the way she is a mum, posting an angry response on Instagram to people who take to social media to comment on her parenting style.

Posting a graphic on her Instagram with the words “On your mark, get set, go f**k yourself”, Gemma had some strong words to say to people who made remarks on the way she is raising her eight-week-old baby, Mia.

Gemma wrote a list of comments she had received from other people about the way she is bringing up Mia, before responding to the trolls.

She wrote: '"She shouldn’t have a dummy. It’s not cold enough for a hat. I hope you’re breast feeding. Get a proper pram. Can’t believe you wake her to feed. She doesn’t need two blankets. She shouldn’t be around the dogs. Her heads not supported on that. She’s sat too low in the papoose. Put mittens on her. Can’t believe you went out without her already.'

She then responded to the comments with: 'Above is just a small list of what’s been said to me on here since having Mia. She’s not even 8 weeks old. I’m absolutely all for getting help and advice! But there’s ways to do it.

'"So to those people who seem to be the unqualified experts when it comes to being a mum, the above is for you. Print it and hang it on the wall next to your perfect parent award.'

She had plenty of support for her post, with Christine McGuiness, wife to Paddy McGuinness and mother of three children, commenting: 'Heard it all before. Raise her your way, she’s your baby!'

Presenter Kate Lawler also offered encouragement for Gemma, telling trolls to 'leave Gemma alone', while one fan of the star wrote: 'Don't justify yourself to a bunch of wanky keyboard warriors. You're doing amazing & your little girl is thriving. That's all the justification you need.'

Another fan commented: 'Preach!! Mum police are the worst bored of it,' with a third writing: 'We’re all winging it - you do what works for you! Anyone that says otherwise is lying!'
