Granger Smith, an American country singer, has shared details of how his three-year-old died – a few weeks after announcing the terrible news.

The dad revealed that his son River had passed away earlier this month, saying he died as a result of a ‘tragic’ accident.

Now Granger has opened up about his loss, and explained what happened during the accident that killed his son.

The little one died after a drowning accident, after he fell into the pool. Granger said: ‘Between 30 seconds and three minutes, we don't know, Amber and I are inside our pool gate doing CPR on our son.’

Despite being rushed to hospital, doctors weren’t able to save him and he died two days later.

‘We had an incredible boy for three years and we feel good about that,' the dad said in a YouTube video titled Finding Light In Our Darkest Time.

He then explained in detail his final moments with River, recalling how he was watching his daughter London do gymnastics in the yard, when he thought to himself: ‘Soak up this moment because it’s not going to last.'

Speaking alongside his wife Amber, the dad explained how they are grateful for the time they had with their son, and they will continue to live their lives with the same joy he lived his.

‘God gave River to us for three years and that was his mission,' he explained.

'I'm not going to play around in my mind that there's this fictitious timeline of River graduating from college or high school or playing football because I believe he was put on this earth for that exact amount of time.

'I don’t think God takes anyone too soon. I believe he was put on this earth for that exact amount of time', he added.

After realising his son lived exactly 1000 days when his daughter asked, he also added: ‘What if you were given a gift to live 1000 days on this earth and you could live those days barefoot, red hair flying back on your go cart, on your tractor, full speed ahead?

'If you could do that with your family around you with no real cares in the world... that's a good 1000 days... that's a good way to live.'

'We should all be so blessed to be able to live like Riv,’

Our thoughts are with Granger and his family during this difficult time.
