James Corden brings fans to tears with emotional post about his dad

James Corden has struck a very emotional chord with fans on social media, with a post about his dad, who served in the Gulf War.

The comedian shared a video on Twitter of a dad who surprised his little boy when he came home for Christmas from working in the army.

In the clip, he’s hiding inside a big present until his son unwraps him, and the two share a big hug.

While sharing the video, the dad-of-three explained how it brought back memories of when his own father came back from the war.

He wrote: ‘When my dad came back from serving in the gulf war I held him so tight as he walked off the coach at the base. I couldn’t let go. I remember it like it was yesterday.

‘This brought it all back. Thoughts are with every family missing loved ones this Christmas.’

James’ tweet also touched a lot of other people on social media, who confessed they were brought to tears after watching it. One said: 'My allergies went crazy. Red eyes leaking water and snotty nose. So weird, started with this video.'

Another jokingly wrote: 'Totally not crying'.

And some even shared their own experiences of having a parent come back or even of them coming back to their own families.

One wrote: ‘When my dad came home from the Falklands, complete with a huge comedy moustache, which totally freaked my little brother out, I thought we were never going to be able to stop hugging him. Life is about moments like this.’

Another said: ‘I was too young when my dad came back from the gulf, I didn't recognise him. Broke his heart so he took me to the park on the married quarters for an hour for me to get to know him again.’

A mum also wrote: ‘I am a serving mum (with RAF Music Services) My daughter turned 2 when I got home from 4 months in Afghan . My stress-headache lasted 4 days, worrying if she would remember me. It took an hour for her to recognise me properly. Now, she can’t remember not remembering me.’

A fourth added: ‘Exactly the same thing happened to me when I returned from Afghan in 2008. My youngest was 4 and wouldn’t go near me, only for half the day mind. She looked at me like I was a stranger. Eventually she just came up and threw her arms round me & wouldn’t let go. She can’t remember.’
