Jamie Oliver has been praised by his neighbours, after he fought off a burglar who was targetting their homes.

We know him from his popular cooking shows and books, but turns out Jamie Oliver has another talent under his sleeve - fighting crime.

The dad-of-five is said to have fought off burglars who were targetting homes in his street, according to the Mirror.

The chef is said to have pinned down the culprit, after he spotted him trying to enter his home in London, where he lives with his wife Jools and his five children.

Jamie is then said to have held down the thief until the police arrived, so they could be arrested.

After the alleged heroic act, neighbours of the star praised him for his bravery, and said everyone was thankful for his quick thinking.

One neighbour told The Mirror: 'It was just a brave, selfless thing to do. Despite the clearly very hairy situation, Jamie was laughing and joking with the coppers saying they'd done a great job to arrive so quickly after the 999 call. Everyone is really thankful for his quick thinking and courage.'

While Scotland Yard did not confirm the identity of the owners of the residency, they issued a statement about the incident, saying there was a male trying to enter a property and that members of the public managed to stop him.

A spokesman for the police said of the incident: 'At 7.13pm on Tuesday, 4th of September, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6. The male was apprehended by members of the public and was subsequently detained by police. He was taken to a North London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Central North Command Unit are investigating.'
