Jennie McAlpine opens up about the difficulty of returning to work at Corrie after having her daughter

Last October, Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine welcomed her daughter Hilda with husband Chris Farr.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the actress, who plays Fizz Brown in Corrie, revealed that there’s ‘never a balance’ when you’re a mother, explaining how tough it can be to organise both work and motherhood.

Daughter Hilda is now one year old, and Jennie described the past year of her life as a ‘whirlwind’ now that she’s returned to the cobbles.

Of parenting with her husband Chris, she said: ‘Being a parent is flipping hard work and the juggling is crazy.

'Me and Chris have a meeting every Sunday night to coordinate the coming week and we have a family timetable stuck on our fridge.’

Jennie McAlpine had nine months at home to care for baby Hilda, and admits that she feels ‘guilty’ about trying to juggle parenthood and her career as an actress.

She added: 'You get used to the fact that you’ll always feel a bit guilty. People post perfect pictures on social media and you think, how are they getting it right when I’m getting it so wrong?

‘But you have to take all that with a pinch of salt and know that you’re doing brilliantly.'

She also described how she feels now that her older son - four-year-old Albert - has started school, saying that ‘the responsibility feels huge’.

Jennie McAlpine also jokily explained that when she took her son to school for the first time, she didn't look quite like Kate Middleton!

She said: ‘I didn’t have time for tears, though, as it was all such a rush. Let’s just say I didn’t quite look like the Duchess of Cambridge when she took Princess Charlotte on her first day.

'I can’t believe how much squashed banana I had down my top, in fact. But there’s nothing wrong with looking like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards!’
