Kate Middleton has an unexpected nickname for Princess Charlotte

The name has gone down in popularity in recent years

Kate Middleton has revealed another adorable nickname that she uses for her only daughter Princess Charlotte.

Mum-of-three Kate Middleton was at a surprise visit to Northern Ireland yesterday (27 February) when she made the adorable confession.

While she and Prince William stood chatting to the crowd of well-wishers, Kate gave an insight into what family life is like back in Kensington Palace as she spilled the beans on her informal nickname for Princess Charlotte.

Belfast-based blogger Laura-Ann was one of the lucky attendees who got to speak with Kate for a few minutes.

Laura-Ann had her two children Bertie and George with her and handed Kate a bouquet of pink flowers.

Kate joked that George had a ‘really cool name’, and asked how old Laura-Ann’s eldest son Bertie was.

Laura-Ann explained that when Kate found out he was four-year-old, Kate replied: ‘Oh! He’s the same ages as Lottie.’

Lottie is a popular abbreviation to Charlotte but has declined in popularity as a full name over the past few years.

According to BabyCentre’s baby name stats, Lottie is down 570 places from 2018 to 2,059 this year.

Charlotte remains in the top ten baby names for 2019 and ranks eight ahead of Harper and Luna.

Princess Charlotte is ahead of both of her brothers too as George currently only ranks at 178 in the popularity chart and Louis isn’t even in the top 200.

This isn’t the first time Kate has used a sweet nickname to refer to her daughter in public. Back in December she was heard calling Charlotte Poppet as they finished up some last minute Christmas shopping.
