Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh to be grandmother at 42

Actress Kym Marsh reveals her 21-year-old daughter Emilie is expecting her first child.

The Coronation Street star has revealed the exciting news that her eldest daughter, Emilie Mae Cunliffe is expecting her first baby – and Kym can’t wait to welcome the new addition to their family.

Along with Emilie and her son David, 23, Kym is also mum to daughter Pollie, seven, and son Archie, who sadly died following his premature birth in 2009.

Emilie is set to welcome her first baby with her boyfriend of six months, though the couple have been close friends for years.

Talking exclusively to OK! Magazine about the news Kym explained that she understands just how her daughter is feeling, as Kym herself discovered she was pregnant at the age of just 18 years old with her son, David.

The former Hear’Say singer, who plays the role of Michelle Connor in the long-running ITV soap, told OK! Magazine: ‘I’m looking forward to being a young grandmother.

‘[Emilie and I] have both had time to get our heads around it and now we’re over the moon. It makes me feel so emotional that my baby is having a baby of her own.’

The soap star added that she hopes her own experience, as a young mum, will help Emilie through the pregnancy and birth.

During the interview the mother and daughter duo revealed how Kym sat alongside Emilie when she took the pregnancy test.

Emilie said: ‘I keep thinking, am I really going to be able to do this? For ages I couldn’t actually get the words ‘I’m pregnant’ out of my mouth because I didn’t know how people would react – I even made Mum tell my dad!

‘Luckily I have the most supportive parents in the world and they’re both really excited.’

Kym was quick to add: ‘I’ve warned [Emilie] that it’s going to be hard work, but I’ve also said that there are a lot of positives to being a young mum, too.

‘There were times when I struggled because your life changes so much when you have a child especially when you are young, but I wouldn’t change what I have now for the world.

Former pop star Kym also revealed being a young mum seems to be a pattern in her family, as her mum was 18 when she had her brother – and Kym’s sister was also 18 when she fell pregnant.

Kym also revealed she’d told her daughter that while life will dramatically change, there are benefits to being a younger mum.

She said: ‘Me, Emilie and David are best friends and I think that’s because there isn’t a huge age gap between us.’

Emilie added that she’s glad she has her boyfriend, who’s name hasn’t been revealed as he’s keen to stay out of the spotlight, is standing by and that they’ll be raising their child together.

She said: ‘He’s a lovely guy, really supportive and he’s really excited about the baby arriving. I’m really lucky to have him.’
