A new mum has become a viral sensation after sharing a photo of herself breastfeeding her daughter in the locker room during her hockey match.
Serah Small, who gave birth to daughter Ellie only eight weeks ago, was playing a hockey match with her local team in Alberta, Canada, but found herself needing to improvise during half-time after she forgot to bring her breast pump.
‘My mom brought my daughter into the dressing room,’ she said. ‘So I got half-dressed and then fed her, and then put the rest of my gear on and went and played.’
Serah’s mother Dena Lanktree, who took the photos, shared them with her daughter who then decided to share the precious moment online to help normalise breastfeeding.
She said: ‘I have been so scared to post this photo that I absolutely adore. Why? Because society has made breast sexual.

‘I have a really hard time feeding Ellie covered and have chose not to cover her at all. Although at times I feel the burn of judgemental eyes I feel more empowered than anything to be able to meet my babies needs the way my body intended’.
Many women and men commented on the photo, praising Serah and calling her ‘an example’ to other women who may struggle with public breastfeeding.
One said: ‘You are a wonderful example to all other moms, young girls, families, and all of society. You are doing what your body intended. You are nurturing and nourishing your baby through breastfeeding. It is beautiful and should be celebrated.’
Another added: ‘Look at at you!! Your a beautiful powerful nurturing mother!! Thank you sending out such an important message.’
While one man wrote: ‘What a way to prove ignorant people wrong!!!! If you have the privilege of doing the things you love, while keeping your baby close, get to it women! You’re strong, beautiful, smart and impressive!!! Prove the ignorant world wrong!!!’
