Gogglebox star Shaun Malone and his family are mourning the loss of their pet dog Frank, who sadly had to be put to sleep over the weekend.

Taking to Instagram to confirm the sad news, Shaun shared a photo of Frank lying next to him on the sofa together.

He captioned the heartfelt post: ‘After 11 years with the family it was so hard but best thing to do for him we’ve had to put my dog frank to sleep R.I.P frankie.’

The family - made up of Tom, Julie, Tom Jr and Shaun - also posted a tribute to their beloved dog on their shared Twitter account.

‘Thank you so very much for all your kind words & thoughts It's been a tough day but now trying to focus on all our good times with Frankie , there are such a lot!’ they wrote.

‘The thing is he was loved too much for us to let him suffer He will never be forgotten, he will live on in our hearts.’

Other stars of the hit Channel 4 reality show were quick to share their condolences with the family, including June Bernicoff who quit the show after losing her husband Leon in December last year.

‘So sorry,’ she posted. ‘Thinking of you all.’

‘Sending love your way,’ added Eve Woerdenweber. ‘Always painful losing a family member.’

Shaun’s followers were also keen to share their condolences with him and his family.

‘Sorry for your loss dogs are such a big part of the family. Rest in peace Frankie,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘So sorry for your loss of Frank. We love watching your family in convo with the dogs. Take care.’

Fans of Gogglebox had come to know Frank as he was always present when the family sat down to film segments for the TV show.
