  • Summer might be over but the good feelings are here to stay, as there is a solid saving of almost £5 to be had on Aperol Aperitivo this Amazon Prime Day.

Why confine Aperol Spritz – that decadent drink reminiscent of holidays – to beach bars? Not when Amazon has clearly heard our cry for easy-to-make-at-home cocktails, hence the 29% off Aperol Aperitivo, the Italian aperitif synonymous with summer (and now with autumn). Don’t think you can’t drink it all year round – it will bring a neon brightness to dark evenings.

Available for £11.99 (70cl) – that’s nearly a fiver off – this bittersweet liqueur has been popular since it was launched more than 100 years ago. Made with bitters, sweet oranges, and a mix of herbs and roots, it’s classed as an aperitif, which is traditionally dry rather than sweet and drunk before a meal to stimulate the appetite.

Make a classic Aperol Spritz using prosecco and soda water or alternatively, switch the soda water for grapefruit juice for a zingy grapefruit spritz. Or make an Aperol version of the classic (and somewhat potent) negroni – made with 1:1:1 ratio of Aperol (rather than Campari), gin and vermouth and lots of ice. You can also jazz up a G&T by adding a splash of Aperol to one, or try a twist on a cosmopolitan by removing the cranberry juice and replacing it with Aperol and a dash of fresh lime juice.

What’s the between Aperol and Campari? Aperol and Campari have much in common and are often confused for each other. Or they’re used in place of the other. They’re both Italian, aperitifs and a similar orangey hue. But Campari is more alcoholic (25% ABV) and tastes more bitter and herby, while Aperol is lower in alcohol (just 11% ABV) and is sweeter and more floral. You can buy Campari here for the reduced price of £12.99 – that’s a 24% saving.
