A mum’s hack for removing splinters has gone viral, with over 64k shares to date.
Claire Bullen-Jones shared a trick for removing splinters using a Calpol syringe to her Facebook page, and it’s proved popular with parents across the country, who have praised it as ‘such a good idea!’.
‘Kids got a splinter? Grab the calpol box and take out the syringe that comes with it! Make sure it’s clean obviously!’ Claire advises.
‘You need to make sure there’s a little bit of a gap before you start-picture for example. Put the small hole at the bottom of the syringe as best you can over the splinter.’
‘Once you know your above it, make sure the syringe is touching the skin-and pull! Make sure there’s no gaps otherwise you won’t get it! The syringe will more than likely pull it out in the first go!’
‘Pain free, no tugging and pulling, and no little ones upset or scared at getting it out!’
Claire added that you need to pull quickly to get the splinter, and if it’s particularly stubborn, you may need to repeat the process a couple of times, but said that it’s ‘well worth seeing the kids smile at the end of it rather than red faces and tears!’
Although she’s used a Calpol syringe as a reference, she went on to say in an additional edit that you can use similar syringes from other products like ibuprofen too.
The simple solution has received widespread applause from fellow mums and dads, who took to the comments to thank Claire for sharing.
‘Definitely be doing this next time!! Fab idea,’ said one, followed by another who agreed: ‘That’s an awesome idea.’
