Next recalls two children's coats amid 'choking fears'

The high street store has issued an urgent safety recall

Parents have been warned of a recall notice from high street favourite, Next.

The store has issued an urgent safety recall of two winter coats over safety fears.

The two garments, a child's grey or pink fur collar coat and a child's navy hooded coat have been recalled 'due to a potential choking hazard.'

According to the recall notice the two coats sold by the fashion store have been found to fall short of the high safety standards required, as some of the buttons on the coats could come loose and be swallowed by youngsters.

As winter is round the corner and Christmas fast approaching, parents may ordered the coats and stored them away for Christmas, ready for unwrapping on the big day.

Anyone who has bought the coats are now urged to contact the brand immediately.

Affected products include a child's grey or pink fur collar coat and a child's navy hooded coat with the product numbers 182560 and 191228.

Next insisted that the two items originally 'passed rigorous testing' but its high standards were not met because of the 'bulk production'.

In a statement reported by The Sun the brand said: 'The coats passed the rigorous testing required for childrenswear, however we have identified that the bulk production has not achieved the same high standard consistently. 'We've taken the decision of recalling them.'

Next has advised that anyone who has bought one of the coats can return it for a full refund.

The chain, which has hundreds of shops and outlets throughout the UK, said: 'Please call us on 0333 777 8185 to arrange a collection, or return it to your local store, if this would suit you better.

'If you have given this item as a gift, please ask the recipient to contact Next.

'We're very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience caused, but we hope you'll understand that customer safety is our highest priority.'
