Fans praise Rebecca Adlington for ‘lovely’ Instagram post celebrating co-parent Harry Needs

Fans have praised Rebecca Adlington’s latest Instagram picture after she shared a snap of estranged husband Harry Needs in honour of his birthday.

Swimmer Rebecca posted the adorable image of Harry with the couple’s daughter Summer sat on his shoulders, writing alongside: ‘Happy birthday @harryneeds !!! I know you will have an amazing day as you get to be with Summer this afternoon. Thank you for being an amazing dad. Hope you have enjoyed your holiday. #birthday’

Her 76,800 followers were quick to applaud Rebecca’s positive attitude to her ex-partner, with one writing: ‘So lovely to see you both so nice to each other!’

‘aww it’s so nice you two can be so nice and civil even though things didn’t work out for you as a relationship,’ another added. ‘And also great for Summer as she gets time with both parents. #teamwork #greatparents #summer @harryneeds xx’

A third agreed: ‘Totally agree with the other comments – so nice that you are both lovely to one another – nice to see โœŒ๏ธ’

Rebecca and Harry began dating in 2011, and he supported her throughout her success at the London 2012 Olympics, where she won two bronze medals. Shortly afterwards, in March 2013, Harry popped the question, and they tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Staffordshire in August of the following year.

Summer was born in June 2015, with Rebecca saying that she was ‘over the moon’ to become a mother. ‘She’s doing well and we’re so in love!!!’ she told fans at the time.

The pair confirmed their split back in March 2016 with a statement which read: ‘It’s after much thought and sadness that we confirm our separation. It is on amicable terms and we still remain close friends.’

‘We move forward with respect for one another and our focus and commitment is on parenting our gorgeous daughter Summer.’

‘This will be our only comment on this private matter. Becky and Harry.’

In June, Rebecca opened up to The Sun about the healthy co-parenting relationship that she and Harry had managed to develop.

‘Harry and I splitting up hasn’t made a difference to Summer,’ she said of their united front. ‘When one of us isn’t there, to her it feels like it would if that person had gone back to work. We both have time with her, and then we do some things together, like taking her swimming โ€“ sheโ€™s obsessed with water.’

‘When there’s a child involved, breaking up is so different, because you both want the best for them. And we absolutely adore her. She’s only young, so all that she knows now is that all both her parents love her, and that’s the thing that is very important to us both.’
