Scottish baby names

Looking for a baby name inspired by the rolling wilderness of bonnie Scotland? You've come to the right place.

The Scots release their own baby names data every year, held by the National Records of Scotland, and while there's some crossover with the top baby names for 2018 so far and the most popular baby names in England and Wales over the last few years, the country have their very own set of trends and fashions when it comes to their Scottish baby names, including some more unique names.

For the most popular list, the Scots' rich and historic heritage can be found in their names, from the many classic Scottish baby names as well as the more unique and individual Scottish Gaelic names like Logan, Isla and Aaron.

Despite the unique name trends that have been getting stronger over the last few years, the only newcomer to the top ten list for boys between 2017 and 2016 was Logan - a Scottish name with roots in the historic south-western county of Ayrshire. Logan is said to be derived from the Scottish Gaelic lagan, which is a diminutive of 'lag', meaning a place, "hollow".
