Serena Williams has revealed the baby name she’s chosen for her first child.
Taking to Instagram to share an adorable first snap of the newborn, Serena wrote: ‘Meet Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr,’ confirming that she and fiance Alexis Ohanian have chosen to name the tot after her father.
In the image, Serena is seen holding her daughter on chest, looking relaxed with her eyes closed.
Fans have rushed to send messages of congratulations to the couple, with one exclaiming: ‘Omg she is sooo beautiful! Congrats to both of you 💖😍”
‘That name is incredible. She is one lucky little girl,’ another wrote, followed by a third who added: ‘Baby Alexis is such a little beauty. Wishing the three of you a lifetime of love and happiness.’
Serena also encouraged her followers to visit her website, where she’d posted a video consisting of a collection Snapchat clips documenting her pregnancy and little one’s arrival.
In the candid film, she shared that the family had spent six days in hospital after labour, because they’d had ‘a lot of complications’.
Serena announced that she was expecting accidentally, with a quickly deleted Snapchat post which said that she was ’20 weeks’ in the caption, and later verified the news through her spokesperson, who said: ‘I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall. ‘
During in interview with Vogue for their September issue earlier this year, the tennis star correctly predicted that she and Alexis were having a girl.
‘Alexis thinks we’re having a boy, but I have a strong suspicion that it’s a girl,’ she told the title.
‘Two weeks after we found out, I played the Australian Open. I told Alexis it has to be a girl because there I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way.’
