Tess Holliday opens up about suffering from 'extreme' postnatal depression and urges other mums to seek help

The mum-of-two revealed how she turned to an app that helps isolated mothers make friends in a moving Instagram post

Tess Holliday has spoken candidly about her experience of dealing with crippling postnatal depression.

The model's struggles with mental health came following the birth of her second child Bowie, who is now almost two. The mum-of-two took to social media to share her story of postnatal depression.

'Since becoming a new mom (again!) I've been very open with how hard it's been. From dealing with extreme PPD, to at times feeling really isolated and overwhelmed. My boys are 10 years apart and that comes with its own set of problems, but I've found support through other women,' she wrote on Instagram.

Tess went on to tell her followers that the discovery of an app that helps mums who are feeling isolated make new friends has become her saviour during dark times.

Similar to dating apps, users 'swipe' to connect with potential pals based on shared interests.

'The other day I stumbled across Peanut in the App Store. It's genuinely amazing. The app shows your other mamas in your area who are at the same stage in life as you, who you share interests with beyond just motherhood,' Tess continued.

The 32-year-old - who also has an 11-year-old son named Rylee - then gushed about a piece of parenting advice dished out by another mother signed up to the app.

She said: 'There have been moments where I thought "Can a tiny one year old really throw tantrums?!" GUESS WHAT, THEY CAN AND DO 🏻. One mom suggested teaching Bowie sign language so he can communicate what he needs to lessen the tantrums because he can't yet say what he wants 💡.'

Tess concluded her powerful status by encouraging other parents to seek help from others in the same way she did.

'Being a parent is really tough, but man is it worth these bags under my eyes! I encourage you to check Peanut out, & I hope it helps you as much as it's helped me! There's a reason they say it takes a village to raise a child! 💘 📸 @nickhollidayco #momlife,' she signed off.

If you think you may be suffering from depression, or postnatal depression, you can speak to your GP or health visitor who can provide help, support and advice.
