How to make a ribbon picture frame

Add a flourish to your kids' pictures by hanging them in these pretty picture frames with a satin-finish bow

We all know that works of art from your children are some of the most treasured possessions a parent can own so why not give them pride of place in your home by making these pretty photo frames to hang them in?

This craft, which takes no longer than 20 mins, is easy to do - so you don't need to be an experienced crafter to give it a go!

You simply take an existing photo frame and give it a pretty finish (we think ribbon makes everything feel a little bit special!) and hang your child's creation! It really is that simple.

You can use whatever colour ribbon or backing paper you'd like to match the decoration of the room - or you could go bad with bright colours and glitter (we think we know which option your kids would prefer!)

You will need

  • White frames
  • Black card
  • 1 metre lengths of 15mm wide bright ribbons
  • Small bulldog clips
  • Glue stick
  • Hot melt glue gun & glue sticks

Method

  1. Remove the backing board and glass from the frame. Draw around the backing board on a sheet of black card and cut out.
  2. Stick the black card to the backing board, and replace inside the frame.
  3. Cut a length of ribbon in half. Using a hot melt glue gun, stick the ends of the 2 ribbon lengths to the backing board at the top edge of the frame, and leave for a few minutes to dry.
  4. Turn the frame over, and stick a small bulldog clip to the black card at the top of the frame's aperture. Leave to dry.
  5. Stick some clear hooks to the wall. Tie the ribbon in a neat bow on a hook, and clip the artwork to the frame.
