One of Aldi’s 5-star wines is making a comeback

Summer 2018 has given us Brits temperatures that before now we’ve probably only experienced on holiday.

And the tropical-like (or desert-like) weather has left us all gasping for water, ice creams and, of course, many chilled alcoholic beverages.

So while the sweltering conditions may mean that we erupt in sweat the minute we step out of a cold shower, it also gives us permission to sip on as many aperols, G&Ts and proseccos as we want. No complaints here.

Well down the last sad warm dregs of your prosecco because there’s a new fizz in town.

Hot on the heels of the release of their revolutionary orange wine, budget supermarket Aldi are releasing another vino to help quench your summer thirst.

Say hello to Sparkling Shiraz red wine.

For those of you who thought a full-bodied Shiraz had to be enjoyed smooth and at room temperature, it looks like you could be mistaken because the Aldi gods are making a pretty good case for sparkling red.

Available in stores and online from 11th August, the bargain store’s Fork & Spoon Sparkling Shiraz blends the Australian grape with blackberries and raspberries for a refreshing fruity finish.

The prosecco-alternative sold out last year and was met with a mass of five-star reviews from customers claiming that it was ‘rich and fruity’, a ‘hidden gem’ with ‘outstanding flavour and quality’.

‘Sparkling Shiraz in my opinion is very hard to get right,’ says Aldi’s resident wine expert Sam Caporn MW, ‘but this strikes the absolute perfect balance between rich damson fruit, chocolate and ripe red cherries with a suggestion of sweetness offset by a lively mousse and crisp acidity’.

She suggests pairing it with duck, pork or stuffed mushrooms, or you could serve it chilled and drink it like a champagne cocktail.

And the best part? It comes in at only £7.99, which is less than the other few similar products on the market.

Well, what else would you expect from everyone’s favourite price-savvy supermarket?
