We all remember when The Great British Bake Off‘s Iain Watters threw his Baked Alaska in the bin and then presented it to Mary and Paul.
But it seems the former contestant from the show’s third series clearly saw the funny side of ‘Bin-Gate’ after having a Baked Alaska as his wedding cake.
Iain married his long-term girlfriend Catriona Mills on Friday, and actually referenced the incident in the form of a Baked Alaska wedding cake – complete with bride and groom figurines placed on top.
Viewers will remember the famous incident which saw Iain leaving the show after his Baked Alaska melted, when fellow contestant Diana Beard removed it from the freezer.
Iain dumped his melted dessert in the bin, and then had to present the bin to Mary and Paul for judgement.
However, Iain’s clearly over the incident after wedding guests shared snaps of his beautiful wedding Baked Alaska.
The guests clearly enjoyed the nod to series three, with baker and builder Richard sharing a picture of the dessert on Instagram. Making a cheeky reference to the infamous Bake Off moment, the caption said: ‘@iainwatters & @catrionamills’s Baked Alaska wedding cake #watterswedding16 #bingate
GBBO’s Martha Collinson also attended the wedding and saw the funny side of the whole thing. She shared a picture of the dessert with the sign next to it that read: ‘THE BAKED ALASKA! #BINCIDENT’ while asking ‘Is there a better wedding cake for @iain_watters?!’.
The 2014 Bake Off cohort clearly remained good friends, as fellow bakers including Chetna Makan, Kate Henry, Nancy Birtwhistle and of course Diana all attended the big day.
But the Baked Alaska wasn’t the only showstopper dessert at the wedding. In true GBBO style, Iain and Catriona’s big day also featured a ‘cake bar’ which was managed by Bake Off alumni Richard and Chetna. Richard also brought along a carrot cake, a Lotus Biscoff cake and a lemon meringue layer cake. Now that’s our type of wedding.
Congratulations to the newly-weds!
