If you’re a vegetarian, you’ll know the struggle of trying to find a good fast food burger. But Burger King’s latest creation could be the answer to your prayers.
The popular fast food chain has launched it’s first halloumi burger, featuring the much-loved cheese. Their latest creation is served on a brioche bun with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and mayonnaise accompanying the crispy halloumi, which originates from Cyprus.
Burger King’s cheesy treat arrives in the UK following a successful trial in Sweden, where vegetarians were quick to snap up the new option. Finally us Brits are able to tuck in, so you don’t need to book a plane ticket if you want to try it.
Halloumi fans can pick up a single burger for £3.99, or £5.99 for a meal with fries and a drink. If you’re especially hungry though, Burger King are also offering the chance to double up and add two halloumi patties to your burger.
The doubled-up version will cost you £5.49 on its own, or £7.49 for a meal. It’s slightly pricier of course, but worth it if you want to treat yourself.
The UK is one of the biggest halloumi importers, with the Cypriot cheese proving a real hit amongst both meat-eaters and non-meat eaters. According to The Grocer, the UK accounts for 43 per cent of all exports, with Brits consuming 12,000 tonnes of the cheese each year.
Halloumi is a versatile ingredient that works perfectly in a variety of recipes. If you fancy cooking with it at home, why not try our Turkish halloumi bake or Joe Wicks’ halloumi fries recipe? They’re sure to go down well with family or friends!
Lots of our favourite food chains have released meat-free options recently. Rival fast-food chain KFC launched their first vegan chicken burger, and Greggs’ vegan sausage roll became a social media sensation.
Burger King are the first fast food chain to offer a halloumi burger, but we’re interested to see if others will soon follow suit.
