Leading tea brand PG tips have announced their plans to help combat loneliness, by offering customers free tea.
This Saturday (8 June), the company are giving away 8 million teabags and calling on the nation to come together over a cup of tea. It’s a simple gesture, but can mean the world to someone who’s feeling lonely. It’s a great way to get to know someone better too.
According to British Red Cross, around nine million people in the UK regularly feel lonely, so this simple initiative is something that could seriously improve people’s wellbeing.
If you want to get your hands on a free box of Original 80s, all you have to do is head to their website and pledge to share a cuppa with someone. Once you’ve done that, download your coupon and take it to any major supermarket to claim.
Alongside tackling loneliness, this is also part of PG Tips’ pledge provide enough free tea for every person in the UK by the end of 2019. That’s a whopping 55 million bags.
PG Tips’ Marketing Director Fiachra Moloney said ‘Providing enough tea for everyone in the country is just the first step, and while we know it won’t end loneliness overnight, we hope we can encourage people to come together by simply sharing a cup of tea with family and friends.
Tea is a part of everyday life in Britain, but by going that step further – and pledging to share a cuppa with those around you – we hope to help reduce the number of people that might be feeling lonely across the nation.’
It’s up to you how you use your teabags, as long as you share them with someone. You could have a heart to heart, afternoon tea with friends, or finally get to know a neighbour a little better.
