Cow & Gate products are being recalled over concerns that they are not safe to eat.
The recall notice comes from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), who said the product in question – some batches of the Cheesy Broccoli Bake – was ‘unsafe to eat’.
The warning read: ‘Cow & Gate recalls one batch of Cheesy Broccoli Bake Stage 3 (10+ months) because it may contain small pieces of blue rubber, which makes this product unsafe to eat.’
Providing the reason why the products might not be safe to eat, experts explained that the jars could contain pieces of rubber gloves.
‘The product may contain small pieces of blue rubber which makes it unsafe to eat’, the notice continued.
The batch Cheesy Broccoli Bake 250g jars affected has the code 28122020 and a best before date of 28/12/2020.
They jars are available to buy from supermarkets including Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Tesco, as well and Boots.
If you have any of the products affected, you should return to the shop where you bought it with or without a receipt for a full refund.
No other Cow & Gate products are known to be affected.
Following the recall warning, Cow & Gate also issued a statement where they reassured parents that despite the recall, the products did not pose a health risk.
The notice read: ‘We are taking this action because some jars in this batch have been found to contain small pieces of thin blue rubber glove.
‘The product does not pose a health risk, but we are recalling it as it does not meet our usual high quality standards. We are therefore asking parents not to feed Cheesy Broccoli Bake with this best before date to their babies.
‘We are sorry that this happened and would like to reassure parents that this is an isolated incident.’
