Mum-of-four Victoria Beckham is known for her enthusiasm for keeping fit and eating healthy but some fans have labelled her most recent 'birthday cake' as a step too far.

Although we like the idea of eating cake at anytime of day, birthdays are famously the one day of the year when you can surely indulge in a spot of guilt-free birthday cake for breakfast.

Victoria Beckham has been celebrating her 44th birthday this week and also took this mantra on board - in her own special way.

The famously health-conscious star had a slightly different 'cake' to celebrate her birthday this year as it was made completely from fruit.

Victoria posted a video of the strawberry and watermelon 'cake' with the caption: 'Love from a very lucky mummy x 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I love u all so so much x kisses @davidbeckham@brooklynbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham#harper x 💕💕💕💕'.

Fans were divided by the former Spice Girl star's choice with some hailing it as 'perfect' and others calling it the 'most miserable cake' they had ever seen.

One person wrote: 'I love the idea of watermelon cake. From now on I only want this! Yum!'

Another said: 'Perfect. A watermelon 🍉 cake 🎂. HBVB. 🥂'.

However others said: 'I love posh, but surely she could relax her strict diet for one day 'her birthday' to enjoy a piece of cake ... I mean c'mon !!'

Another added: 'Most miserable cake I’ve ever seen eat some cake please.'

As it happens, the critics were too quick off the mark as Victoria later revealed that the watermelon birthday cake had just been her 'breakfast cake'.

She posted a video on her Instagram story showing her sons decorating a 'real' cake and clarified that the watermelon dessert was just for breakfast!

Victoria celebrated her birthday with her whole family around her, as she had all four of her children at home for her special day - a real treat for the doting mum who has made no secret about how much she misses her eldest son Brooklyn living at home.

Brooklyn moved out of the family home to go and live and study in New York last year.
