Chocolate fingers cake

This chocolate fingers cake will wow as a centrepiece to any birthday table but it’s actually so easy to make – especially if you follow our simple step-by-step picture guide.

This rich chocolate cake is perfect for special occasions and is ideal for sharing as it feeds between 6-8 people.

It can be stored in the fridge until served and is best eaten on the day. If you have any leftovers store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

This delicious chocolate fingers cake takes 25 mins to cook and 30 mins to prepare. The chocolate fingers create a lovely nest for topping your cake with lots of treats. If you’re making it for a birthday, top your cake with something the recipient loves anything from fresh berries, white chocolate buttons or even jellied sweets will work well.

This cake is covered with a Nutella layer but you can substitute it for milk, dark or white melted chocolate or a chocolate buttercream if you’d prefer.

How to make a chocolate fingers cake:


For the cake:

  • 200g butter
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 4 medium eggs
  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 50g cocoa powder
  • ½tsp baking powder

To decorate and fill:

  • Nutella
  • 3 packs chocolate fingers
  • M&Ms, Smarties, Maltesers
