Banana apple sauce mush is a tasty puree that’s fab for young children – all you need is an apple and a banana to make a sauce that’s great for weaning young children. You can add more water to this recipe if your baby is younger to make the consistency a bit thinner, or you can keep it thicker for an older toddler. You can either use a potato masher on this recipe, or you can use a blender for this recipe, depending on how thick or thin you’d like the puree to be.

Ingredients

  • 1 apple
  • 1 ripe banana

Method

  • Peel, core and cut 1 apple into slices/chunks

  • Place slices or chunks into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover apples

  • Boil until tender; be sure to check on the water level.

  • Apples may be mashed with a potato masher to achieve a smooth applesauce consistency or you can puree in an appliance.

  • Peel a ripe banana and mash in a bowl with a fork (heating in the microwave for approximately 20 seconds will soften the banana up if needed)

  • Add applesauce to the banana and sprinkle with wheatgerm or crushed cheerios

  • Puree if necessary but mashing with a potato masher will typically get this mix smooth
