Making your own purees is often a lot cheaper than shop-bought jars and you can be confident about the ingredients you are feeding your little one. This ‘mush’ is made with just two ingredients and can be blended in a food processor or vigorously mashed with a potato masher.

Method

  1. Peel, core and cut the apple into slices or chunks. Out into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover the apple pieces. Boil until tender; be sure to check on the water level.
  2. Use a potato masher to achieve a smooth applesauce consistency or you can puree in an appliance or with a stick blender.
  3. Peel a ripe banana and mash in a bowl with a fork (heating in the microwave for approximately 20 seconds will soften the banana up if needed)
  4. Add the applesauce to the banana and stir to combine. Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

“If you ever spot a bunch of bananas in the supermarket that are reduced in price because they are very ripe and have deep brown skins, this is the perfect recipe to use them in. The darker the skin, the sweeter the fruit and the more banana flavour you’ll get.”
