These oaty fruity granola bars are perfect for packed lunches or just to enjoy with a cup of coffee. Packed with goodness they will keep you feeling full for a long time! Vary the dried fruits and nuts, try adding chopped apricots, pistachios, chocolate chips or sunflower and pumpkin seeds if liked.
- 150g butter
- 50g caster sugar
- 200g golden syrup
- 275g porridge oats
- 75g chopped mixed nuts
- 100g raisins
- 75g dried cranberries
Line a 18cm square shallow cake tin with baking parchment.
Heat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4.
Place the butter, sugar and golden syrup in a pan and heat until the butter has melted. Stir in the oats, nuts, raisins and cranberries and stir well.
Spread the mixture in the cake tin and press down well. Bake for 20 –25 mins until just golden brown around the edges. Leave to cool in the tin before turning out and cutting into slices. This will keep for up to 2 weeks in a cake tin.
Top tip for making Granola bar
If liked you can use muesli instead of porridge oats and the nuts and fruits, but buy unsweetened cereal or the recipe may be too sweet. Ready-made granola can also be used, but as it is often drier than porridge oats it may make the bars more crumbly and difficult to cut into slices.
