Our jerk burgers are a spicy Caribbean twist on your normal burger. These flavourful jerk burgers are given a healthy twist using lower fat turkey mince. Either cooked in a pan in your kitchen or over a hot barbecue, the smell of these jerk burgers are going to ensure that no one craves boring old beef. Load these aromatic and fiery burgers up with all of the toppings and you’ll feel like you’re basking on a Caribbean island in no time! If you don’t want to cook these in a pan, why not do them over the barbecue. Make sure the barbecue is nice and hot and cook them for the same amount of time. Enjoy the smoky aroma wafting the Caribbean spices around – yum.
- 450g turkey mince
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 6 spring onions, finely chopped
- 1tsp jerk seasoning
- 1tsp Encona Brazilian BBQ sauce or a few drops of hot pepper sauce depending how hot you like things
- 1tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 4 poppy seed rolls, halved and toasted under the grill
- Mayonnaise, to serve
- Lettuce, to serve
- Slices of avocado, to serve
- Slices of red onion, to serve
- Sweetcorn relish, to serve
Mix together the turkey mince, crushed garlic, finely chopped spring onions, jerk seasoning and Brazilian BBQ or hot pepper sauce and season with salt and pepper. Shape into 4 burgers, pressing the mixture firmly together with slightly wet hands.
Heat a griddle pan over a high heat until good and hot. Add the oil and cook the burgers for 5-7 minutes on each side, until browned and completely cooked through.
Serve them in toasted poppy seed buns with a layer of mayo, lettuce, sliced avocado, a few slices of red onion and a good dollop of sweetcorn relish. Why not serve with some home made chips or a crunchy coleslaw for the perfect accompaniment.
