Make this with the kids at the weekend for a fun and easy activity that requires no cooking. With just a few delicious ingredients you can make these bars in no time at all, making them the perfect mid-week treat to pack into lunch boxes. This recipe can easily be adapted to your own tastes too, try using different dried fruits and nuts.
- 175g butter
- 1½tbsp drinking chocolate
- 3tbsp golden syrup
- 300g pack rich tea biscuits
- 200g sultanas
- For the topping:
- 360g bar of milk chocolate
- 100g walnut pieces, roughly chopped
- 100g glacé cherries, chopped
- You will also need:
- 23 x 28cm traybake tin lined with baking parchment
Put the butter, drinking chocolate and syrup in a pan over a low heat and stir until the butter melts.
Break biscuits up by hand into a bowl and mix in the sultanas. Pour in the hot melted butter mixture and stir well.
Spoon into the tin, spread evenly and press it down level with the back of the spoon.
Break the chocolate into chunks into a bowl over a pan of simmering water and stir occasionally to help it melt. Spread it over the biscuit mixture in the tin, then sprinkle the nuts and cherries on top. Chill in the fridge to set and cut into bars when you want to serve it.
Top tip for making Tiffin
If you don't have baking parchment you could use cling film or foil instead, to line your tin.
