A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle

Chosen by Lisa Batty, 36, Scunthorpe Lisa is a dental nurse and enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Matt, cooking, horse riding, playing netball and buying shoes.

Lisa says:
‘There’s nothing nicer than a Sunday afternoon on the sofa reading one of Peter Mayle’s Provence titles. He has such a lovely writing style that you lose yourself in his descriptions of the food, landscape, his bizarre neighbours and friends in the village and his adventures in and around Provence. You can easily enjoy an entire book in one session – they’re very easy to read and are a good form of escapism. You find yourself transported to his house deep in the French countryside and you can almost taste the pastis in the Café du Progrés.’
