If you’ve ever read any of my blogs you’ll know that I’m nuts about cats, especially my two, Beaker and Bunsen. So you can imagine how pleased I was when one of them was used in a cat calendar for 2009! Beaker is December!
We adopted Beaker from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home when he was three weeks old because he was being bullied by his sisters and he’d been taken away from his mum too early and needed to be hand-fed. And, as my husband is a volunteer there, he decided we could do the job. Nearly a year on, he’s a big healthy boy who likes to sit on people’s shoulders, chase leaves in the garden and hide his head under things when he’s sleeping.
The lady who designed the calendar did an illustration of Beaker from a photograph of him when he was a bedraggled little kitten and also added him to a book with stories about the cats from Battersea. She invited us along to her stall at a reunion of dogs who had been rehomed from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in Battersea Park.
So my husband and I went along… It felt like some sort of weird parents’ evening. We had to introduce ourselves as Beaker’s mum and dad and were given the first glimpse of Beaker in the calendar. Ooh I was ever so proud. He’s called Beaker the celebrity cat, in our house now.
And talking of cats, which, as you know, I’ll happily do all day, have you seen this clip of Ninja cat from Youtube? I had to watch it eight times and it still makes me laugh.
Have you got any favourite cat clips? I’d love to see them!
