After weeks of saying how much he hated John and Edward, Simon Cowell’s shock decision to take it to the public vote has left many questioning his motives
A thrilling results show on X Factor saw Welsh teen Lucie Jones go head-to-head with Irish twin John and Edward – ‘Jedward’ – for a place in next week’s show.
With mentors Dannii and Louis both voting to save their acts, Cheryl opted to save Lucie, once again leaving Simon Cowell with the deciding vote.
Widely criticised for his decision the previous week to take Rachel or Lloyd’s fate to the public vote, Simon shocked the nation by doing it again! Justifying his actions by saying he’d rather watch the twins perform next week than Lucie, Simon chose to let the public decide and a sobbing Lucie was sent home.
The events on the show have sparked a national outrage with many claiming the show is a ‘fix’ and that Simon had plans for the twins as a money-making novelty act.
Speaking on ITV2 show The Xtra Factor later, he said: ‘You make a decision right in that moment.
‘If I think it is someone who can win, you do the right thing,’ he said.
‘It’s not my fault the two people in the bottom didn’t get the most votes. I have had one of my acts in the bottom two. I didn’t win last year.’
He added:’The best person will win this competition. No one has gone out so far who I think should have won the competition. I actually think the public have got it right so far.’
