Sam says:
‘This story came from a book of short stories by Stephen King. I read it originally when I was a teenager and years later I watched a film with a storyline that seemed very familiar. It turned out that the film was based upon this book. The film was Stand by Me and was released in the late 1980s. It’s not often that a film is as good as the book, but in this case it was. It also made me return to the book, and I’ve read it several times since. The story is set in 1950s America and follows four boys who, after overhearing their older brothers discussing a boy who has gone missing, embark on an adventure to find his body. The boys – Chris, Gordie, Teddy and Vern – share a journey, both physically and emotionally, which helps them discover the meaning of friendship, companionship and love. There are parts that make me laugh out loud and parts that make me cry even now.’
