Model and TV star Chrissy Teigen has won praise from her 3 and a half million Twitter followers after sharing a picture of her stretch marks.
The 31-year-old, who is mum to daughter Luna with husband John Legend, posted the candid photograph to her feed, captioning it simply: ‘Whatevs’.
Fans were quick to send positive, thankful replies to the image, with one writing: ‘THANK YOU. Normalizing things like stretch marks and cellulite in the public eye is so so important. Thank you.’
‘Stretch marks develop when tremendous growth happen in a short period of time. They’re a source of pride, embrace them,’ another added.
Some even shared pictures of their own stretch marks in a show of support.
It’s not the first time the mum-of-one has shared a snap of her stretch marks; in 2015, she made headlines after showing her ‘stretchies’ on her Instagram account, later adding that she was tired of seeing airbrushed images on social media.
‘I have those apps, the Facetune and Photoshopping ones, and I just didn’t feel like doing it anymore – and I’m never doing it again, because I think we forget what normal people look like now,’ she said of the picture during an appearance on The Meredith Viera Show that same year.
‘The standard is so ridiculous. I mean, people are nip-tucking [their pictures].’
‘It’s gotten to a point where they’re not smoothing their skin anymore. They are actually changing the shape of their body and everybody else – nobody can compare to that when you’re fixing yourself so much. It’s so unfair.’
However, on this occasion Chrissy clarified that she didn’t upload the picture for the applause, but just because she had been drinking wine, and she ‘likes the pattern’ of the marks on her thighs.
‘When I drink wine I say “whatevs” and sober Chrissy doesn’t like it,’ she explained in a follow-up tweet.
‘I do not post stretchies for the praise. I post it because the wine also I like the pattern and they’re so soft’.
