Sonia later told the M.E.N: 'I'm so happy to be engaged. He is my best friend as well as my partner and we’re excited to spend the rest of our lives together! Although we'd discussed the possibility of it happening one day, I wasn't expecting it anytime soon so it was a huge surprise.
'He took me to Manchester Town Hall pretending we were supposed to be trying a new restaurant in there. Upstairs is a beautiful space which they call 'The Bees' where we stood talking. He then surprised me by getting down on his knee with the ring in his hand. I burst into tears and of course said yes!'
Adding that the proposal was 'the most special moment of my life', she said: 'We couldn't be happier. We've been together for a long time and it feels like the right time to take our relationship to the next level.'
