Martin Lewis cancels TV appearance after suffering with 'agonising' ulcer

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis opened up about his health to fans after he was forced to cancel an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

Martin Lewis is suffering from a throat ulcer that he has described as so 'agonising' that it's making it 'impossible' for him to continue live TV work.

The Money Saving Expert says he has been left  'shaking with nerves' at the thought of leaving his home to film links for The Martin Lewis Money Show because speaking leaves him in excruciating pain.

Lewis, 46, has also admitted being left in tears as a result of his painful condition.

The ITV host took to Facebook to inform fans of his ill health after he was forced to cancel an appearance on Good Morning Britain today (February 8).

Posting on his Facebook page, he wrote: 'Throatgate day 4. Thanks for all the well wishes. I wanted to give you an honest update as so many of you have been asking and been so kind.'

'Sadly, I'm no better - you'll have seen I couldn't do Good Morning Britain today - live TV is impossible.'

Martin continued: 'Last night I saw a specialist who confirmed I've a large, vicious ulcer in my throat (I won't post a picture of it) - not a cold/flu. Unfortunately eating and speaking are truly agonising, causing the left of my face and neck to go into spasm - leaving me close (or sometimes) in tears.

'There is no treatment but to wait, though I'm finding that tough as there's no sign of improvement and sleeping is hard.'

The TV star went on to reveal that he is going to try and film some links for his Monday show, in the hopes that a general aesthetic will help him fight through the pain: 'I'm going to go and try and film the links for my Monday show today. I've been given a special local anaesthetic to get me through it (I've been told doing it won't make things worse).'

Martin then very honestly disclosed his apprehension at leaving his home, but that he was doing it because sitting at home has made him sadly feel quite down: 'I must admit to literally shaking with nerves about leaving the house to do it, but I'm doing it as I want to, as sitting in the house in pain has made me rather low.'

Several fans have commented under the post to offer their well-wishes to the presenter during this tough time, with one fan writing: 'Take care Martin, it sounds awful, hope you feel better soon x.' Another concerned fan had this sound piece of advice: 'take care but remember your health is much more important than any job x get well soon'
