Primark urgently recalls primer water fearing it can cause ‘infection or irritation’

High street store Primark has recalled three primer waters over fears that they can cause infection or irritation when used.

If you’ve bought one of their own-brand Primer Waters in charcoal, watermelon or coconut, you can get your money back when you return it to your nearest store.

According to the retailer, the primers contain a higher level of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, an organism that survives and grows in an oxygenated environment, than what is allowed in these products.

In an official statement on the retailer’s website, they wrote: ‘Through our on-going due-diligence programme it has come to our attention that the primer waters detailed above do not meet Primark’s usual high standards and contain a higher than permitted level of aerobic mesophilic bacteria.’

As a result of this, Primark says that the products may cause infection or irritation if used on damaged skin or if it comes into contact with the eyes.

Those with a weakened immune system are especially at risk of potential infection, the retailer has warned.

Primark are now advising all customers to return the primer waters for a full refund. There’s no need for proof of purchase either, such as a receipt.

This urgent recall also applies to Irish customers, as the notice has been issued across Penneys stores, which is the Irish equivalent of Primark.

Discussing the need for a recall, a spokesperson has said: ‘We take the safety of our customers and quality of our products very seriously.

‘It has come to our attention that these primer waters do not meet our usual high standards.

‘We ask that customers return the product to any Primark store for a full refund.’

These primer waters were on sale from 21st January until 30th August this year, so if you have purchased one make sure you discontinue use and return it to your nearest store as soon as you can.
